Since Pioneer seemed to pretty much nail the footprint and basic hardware controls, it seems that with some tweaking and innovation most of the shortcomings can be resolved with improvements to the software. The size of the S1 has allowed sound ergonomic placement of the effects, cue and loop controls, and they feel good to the touch. However, I dont like the inability to tweak FX to custom settings.

I’ve only used the unit at home but I will be using it this Saturday for a wedding but as far as what I’ve used, I am very happy with it. The DDJ-S1 has an almost identical system to its every popular DJM cousin which is arguably the worldwide standard for club mixers, this similarity makes headphone cuing a snap when coming from the DJM The only reason I did not give the controller 5 stars was because of the feel – otherwise, it is excellent.

The DDJ-S1 seems just about right, in terms of not being too big or heavy to conveniently move. The intuitive interface dej a plug-and-play USB port, 2 scratch decks and an assortment of pre-assigned faders, knobs, buttons and switches for control over monitoring, cuing, effects, looping, pitch and much more.

For a noob DJ like me, it is hard for me to find online resources on how to use the more advanced features of the DDJ-S1. Weddings are certainly a challenge and I wanted a unit that would be up to the challenge. Therefore, we thought it would be fitting to run the article as planned because he would have wanted to share it with the world. I did have to update x1 firmware of the controller to get Serato DJ support, but that was quick and easy.

Great layout of all the buttons, and typical Pioneer quality. I also love that my laptop slides right under the unit so all that shows is the laptop monitor most Serato functions are available on the unit so no need for a keyboard or mouse. The standard setting for this control should dvj to be set to an instant start and a slightly delayed stop to simulate the stop button on a technics turntable.
S of what I don’t love are the differences between Serato’s Itch and Scratch The 1 down side, there is only 1 volume level running out so there is no ability ddj run a master line and a booth line, but this can be fixed by running it d1 a mixer with both master and booth outputs.
This controller is a very big step up form my Vestax Spin that got me in to DJing. Coming from a photography background where there are a number of excellent online resources, I haven’t found the excellent support groups for the DDJ-S1 that could help me get to the next level.
